Comment: The Hotel Centrale is in an excellent location, very close to the centre of Mestre and opposite the bus station where you can catch the bus to Venice every ten minutes. (Buses run all night - half hourly after 10pm and take 10-15 minutes to arrive in Venice.) The room was clean and the staff were helpful but the breakfast was poor (just a few dry pastries and serve yourself coffee from a machine). The hotel was fine as a base near to Venice, with its best feature being the convenient location.

Comment: I selected the hotel for the price and location - in the middle of Marco Polo airport and Venice city. It turns out that I had to take taxi to get to the hotel from airport due to my flight arrival time. Taxi is very expensive - 35 euro for less than 10 miles distance with no traffic. Getting to Venice from hotel is very easy using the public bus. It takes about 15 minutes. When we asked the hotel front desk to book a taxi for the early morning flight, we were told it would be 45 euro. We ended up spending the time to find out where the shuttle bus stop was and took the shuttle to airport for 5 euro per person. At the end, the saving from the hotel room may not be worth the high transportation cost.

Comment: easy to find with a google map we walked from station with heavy rucksacks in about twenty min. Its a basic hotel ideal to put your head down (cheap bar next door ) much cheaper than staying in Venice and only 1 euro on train to Venice which only takes about 15 min.

Comment: Upon arrival, we were informed that our request for a twin room with balcony was just that, a request, and no such room was available. We were told that we had not made such a request. It was not until I showed a copy of our original booking that the room that we had requested on it was suddenly found to be available. After a very long flight, this sort of problem does not create a good impression.

Comment: There is a problem with a sewage smell at night in some of the rooms which face into the rear courtyard. This was drawn to the attention of hotel staff who seemed to be aware of the problem. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, this is the third time I have stayed at this hotel, and would do so again.
